Changes to my study programme

Hi! Today I’m going to talk about my opinion about my study programme (of my career) and the facilities of the faculty.
I’m studying “Social Work” and regarding to the curriculum, I think that are some subjects that are not very “necessary” for the carrer, for example, a subject that we had last year (our first semester here) that was called like “Transversal: leer y escribir en las Ciencias Sociales”. When I saw the name of the subject I think it was going to be very interesting, but in fact, I felt like the subject was taking my time and a needed that time to study or do something else.
About studying another language, I think that maybe, it should be our decision if we need/want to take it, and not something obligated. That’s because sometimes I need time to study for something else, so I don’t do my best in this subject –English-.
The faculty, in my opinion, it’s too small for the number of students that need their classrooms. Somedays my partners have to sit in the flor because there are not enough cheers for all of us. And that’s not great.
The canteen, as well, is too small and very expensive (in my opinion). Also, the food is not really great so I don’t go there very frequently. My friends and I usually go to another canteen of the brunch campus, like the ICEI canteen.
The library is very great; I usually go there if I need to study or do some work. Is the best library in campus to study in groups.

MY CHILDHOOD

Today I’m going to write about childhood and some memories of it. Regard to some food, song or smell that brings my childhood memories, I think I it’s the smell of wet grass. That’s because my grandfather lived in the countryside when I was very little and my family and I used to go every time we could, and in winter, that smell was very nice. Also, I remember the sound of the cows eating and mooing.
My favorite childhood memory is when my grandfather took my brother, my cousins and I out in his countryside to give food to his dog called “Jack”. We woke up VERY early (like 5-6 am), only to see him. That dog was an angel because he used to take care of us every day, while we were playing or riding a horse. I loved him with all my heart.
When I was little, some activity that I used to enjoy outside school was dance. I used to go to a dance academy every Saturday morning, in a place very far from my home, but in fact, I was dancing all day. Also, I liked to sing and I recorded me singing. I hear some of those recordings and it give me shame haha. I felt like a super star, singing and dancing.
In conclusion, I think my childhood was very nice and full of joy. I loved going to my grandfather’s home, near Los Ángeles. I played a lot and learned about animals and nature.

Personal opinions

Hi! Today I’m going to give my opinions about some matters that are important or relevant to me.
With regard to recycling, in my opinion, I think it’s a complicated issue, because we all know the importance of recycling. I mean that we all know that are too much pollution in our world but the problem is that we do anything. Also, is very easy to recycle, you just need to get used to it; it’s a habit that we all must need to have.
If you ask me about legalizing abortion in some cases, I think it’s not my call. What I´m trying to say is that isn’t my decision if someone can or cannot abort because it’s NOT my body. The problem about abortion is that some people think that they have opinion about our own bodies, that they have control of it. So, if some women want to abort, it’s her life, her body and her decision. Not mine, not of the government, not of men, not of anybody but hers.
I strongly believe that killing dogs to prevent sanitary problems and animal over population is stupid, because it’s not the dog’s fault that our irresponsibility is affecting the world. In my opinion, animals can’t have to pay for our own mistakes. I think the best solution is take care of our dogs like a member of our family and operate them if it’s necessary, to don’t have a overpopulation problem.
And finally, to me, tattoos are AMAZING. I think it’s another kind of art (and a painful one haha). In my opinion, Chilean population is too conservative and feel that tattoos are synonymous of delinquency. We have to normalize having tattoos. They’re absolutely beautiful!

Postgraduate studies

Before I finish studying Social Work in Universidad de Chile, I would like to study a postgraduate course about some subjects that I have always wanted to investigate: childhood and people in jail. I think these subjects are the most interesting of all and I see myself in the future doing something in those areas. I like those subjects because I think that kids and people in jail are one of the most vulnerable populations in Chile.
I think that doing a postgraduate course it’s a good idea because that can give you more opportunities in the future, more opportunities to find a great job. Also, I think the world is always changing so we need to continue learning about ways to do Social Work.
If I have the opportunity to study abroad, I would like to study, maybe, in Barcelona, Spain, because I felt in love with that city when I visited there in 2014. I don’t know anything about Social Work or postgraduate courses of Social Work in Spain, but I would like to go there because of the beauty of that city haha. I know that there’s not a very good reason to go to study there but I didn’t make a good research about postgraduate courses. I only know that some of the best colleges of Social Work are in Brazil.
I would like to study a part-time course so I can work too, to pay for that course haha.

Animals and pets

Hi! I have to admit that I love to write about this. I love to talk about my pets haha.

I have three pets right now: two dogs (Lucas and Chelo) and one cat (Pacha). Lucas is a poodle, he’s nine years old and he was a gift for my tenth birthday. I felt in love in the very first moment I saw him because he was a little white hair ball.

Chelo is a pitbull (kind of) and my brother found him in the streets by himself. He was very skinny and with a lot of injuries. He lives with us since 2015 and we are very lucky to have him. We don’t know how old he is exactly but he’s around three years old. All people think he’s dangerous or grumpy but he is the LOVE itself. He’s precious.

Finally, Pacha is a cat that I adopted with an old friend of mine. My friend had lost a dog very recently so he asked for my help to have another pet. We decided to name her “Pacha” for Pachamama haha. She’s VERY grumpy but when she wants, she can be very sweet. She’s living with my friend and I go visit her every weekend.

I have never been bitten by a dog and I think that's the reason why I'm not afraid of them.

My future job

I don’t know a lot about what kind of job I want to have, I don’t really think about the future because it makes me anxious but I would like have an outdoor job that allows me to travel a lot and let me know different cultures. Also I would like to work directly with the people to get involve with their reality.
I would like to specialize in childhood or jail because I am very interested in those objects before I started studying Social Work. That’s because a cousin is working in a women’s prison as a teacher and the things that she does there inspire me a lot.
Another thing I have in mind is to go to work in a different city, not in Santiago. I’m thinking of going to live in the south of Chile, maybe in Puerto Montt o Los Ángeles, but I’m not sure yet because that would mean to live very far from my family and friends.
In this moment of my life I don’t care a lot about the salary, but we really don’t need a lot to be happy. And finally, I don’t want my job to be a competition.

Art...

I don’t know a lot of things about art, but I think art is important because it’s an instrument to express ourselves and try to share it with the society. I don’t really have been interested in this subject, but I like to visit some museums and try to feel what the artist was trying to share with us. The thing that I really like of the museums is watch very old paintings because I feel like I’m in a different time.
Since I remember, I wasn’t very good at art, so it didn’t keep my attention too much. I think I have never been jealous of anybody because I think we all born with different abilities and that’s fine.
About graffiti, I think it’s not a vandalism when It shows some feelings; discontent, angry, joy, happiness, but not when some people write in the street like “wena choro”, I don’t like that haha.
As I said, I don’t know very much about art, so I really don’t have a favorite artist, but I really admire Concepción Balmes Barrios as a painter.
